the song, and cake

Today I'm going to bake a cake with my daughter.
Remember, she's not even 2 yet.
It won't be pretty.
But I'm completely prepared for her to have a hand (literally) in it's construction.

See, it's my Hub's birthday today.
Unfortunately, he's at work, but that gives us time to decorate the kitchen floor and walls in chocolate...

She understands the concept of birthday cakes now.
She's been to 3 birthday parties already in her little life..
Not including family...these were actual invitation-parties...
Popular gal...
She knows that when we sing "the song" that "cake" follows.
She knows that the term "Birthday" means song, cake and presents.

So, when I said "it's Daddy's birthday in a few days"
She immediately responded with "cake"
How could I not let her have a hand in it after such an intellectual response?

The fact that on most days, she can't find her mouth
With a spoonful of spaghetti
Without finding her lap first
Shouldn't scare me at all.
It is just chocolate.

2 year olds and a spatula full of chocolate icing
Equals
A recipe for disastor?

No, more like a recipe for love.

Let Hallmark have their cards. Let Kodak have their "Kodak moments." The times shared between a mom and her kid defy definition! She will always remember. I promise!
